Subway TeRapa Race 15 Saturday 28th August 2010

The final week of the Subway TeRapa handicap series, and the weather stayed clear for a great day other than the wind which has made the course a challenging one for all over the pass months. 27 riders arrived for the early start of 1pm, with no points up for grabs this week Trevor and Geoff had decided to ride with the first off the line group to get them working well together. 5 minutes later 2nd off the line rolled away, followed by break on 9 minutes and scratch with 6 riders on 12minutes.

First off the line covered the first lap in 20.22 minutes, Trev and Geoff had got them rolling thru smoothly by this time. Next thru was 2nd off the line in 24.28, followed by break at 26.23 and scratch at 28.19 already taking 4 minutes out of 1st off the line so it was looking like it was going to e a very close finish.
Lap two passed with 1st off the line on 40.33 maintaining their steady pass, Break and 2nd off the line were altogether going thru at 43mintues with scratch a minute behind, so it looked like the finish was going to be very close.

Half way along Kaniui Road Karin had to stop, leaving Kevin, Dean, Graham and Bill, with Geoff and Trev now sitting on the back for the final 8ks was this going to stop the group working together? As the final climb arrived all the other riders were in view were they going to catch the final few riders. Kevin attacked on the hill with Bill and Dean close behind; Graham was to be caught on the climb. With Kevin out the front, Bill and Dean stopped working together, even with Geoff yelling at them to keep working together this cost them and they were caught by the flying scratch and break riders. Kevin powered on with Geoff yelling at him to dig it in, this payed off as Kevin took line honours with they flying Lynton Chitty a mare 2 seconds behind with Michael Leaf being piped on the line for 3rd.
